 Working For Inclusion

Programme Activities

Research

Research will produce a clear picture of the qualification and skill levels in early years services and how these relate to levels of poverty and social inclusion. Research is taking place simultaneously in Scotland and the UK, Poland, Norway, Italy, Slovenia, France, Denmark, Portugal, Sweden and Hungary and will offer an overview of developments throughout the EU. Once completed, the data will contribute towards policy development at an EU level as well as Scotland and the rest of the UK. The research is being carried out by Dr John Bennett and Professor Peter Moss.

Study visit and events

Each partner will lead a study visit and national event in their country, each examining one of the four key themes of the programme.  A major conference will be held to close the programme in January 2011, hosted in Brussels by Eurochild.

Publications and resources

A series of reports and papers will be produced throughout the programme:

  • Research report:  on the early years workforce in relation to poverty and social inclusion, containing comparative descriptions of services, workforce and workforce developments in 10 countries, in the context of the overall European situation
  • Discussion papers on each of the four key programme themes, to stimulate discussion and debate
  • Reports on each of study visits and the themes explored by delegates
  • A final programme report

All reports and papers will be available to download free from the community webspace and Children in Scotland’s website.
