Your views matter – let us know what you think

As Children in Scotland works to influence policy and inform the legislative system to make the country better for children and young people, we want to find out what you think about some of the important issues affecting the country.

Take time to send us your responses to the questions below, and have your say. We will treat all responses in confidence, but also feed them back to decision-makers.

In the September issue of the magazine MSP Robert Brown views the Children’s Hearings Bill in the context of recent legislation and concludes that when it comes to law reform, Scotland’s children and young people are being given only half a loaf. What do you think? Should the legislation have gone further? How?

This month's questions are:

  • How could the effectiveness of measures recommended at Hearings – particularly their long term impact on child wellbeing – be better monitored and assessed? What specific changes would make a difference to the children who come before panels?
  • What age group should Hearings serve? Would the needs of those over 16 be better served by a juvenile court?
  • How could the transition from Hearings to the adult justice system be improved?
  • The Children’s Hearings Bill as it stands focuses on the system’s structure and procedures. Do you have ideas for amendments to this Bill?

Have your say...

Let us know what you think – tell us your answers to these questions, or comment on how Scotland supports the vulnerable young people within the Hearings system .
