Play, nature and services for young children
16 September 2010, Balbirnie House Hotel, Fife
!! Newsflash - Adam Ingram MSP, Minister for Children & Early Years confirmed as speaker
Outdoor play and learning in nature have received a renewed focus and impetus in the light of recent research which shows that children who play outside benefit in a number of significant ways. Children who play outside gain in confidence, independence and self-esteem and are healthier and more curious.
Children in Scotland, working in partnership with Fife Council, have organised a timely conference on outdoor play which will take place in Fife on 16 September 2010. With a stimulating mix of presentations, question and answer sessions and parallel workshops, the conference will consider a wide range of approaches to developing outdoor play across Europe, as well as learning from exciting developments here in Scotland.
The Early Years Framework and Curriculum for Excellence reinforce key messages about the importance of outdoor play and learning, and the conference will be relevant to all those working with children from 0 to 10 across a wide range of services.
Delegates will have the opportunity to consider the importance of offering access to outdoor play and activities, hear about different approaches to outdoor play across the EU, and discuss policy and practice implications within their own areas of responsibility.
