Criminal record checks
Appointment of successful candidates for posts which have regular contact with children, young people and/or vulnerable adults will be subject to a satisfactory criminal records check. All candidates should read this further information.

Disclosure Scotland is a bureau within the Scottish Criminal Record Office which provides information on criminal records, and other information provided by the police, by issuing certificates known as Disclosures.

Appointment of successful candidates for posts which have regular contact with children, young people and/or vulnerable adults will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure certificate being issued by Disclosure Scotland or a similar document by a relevant overseas authority. Please check the job description for the post you wish to apply for and, if a check is required, please ensure that you read the information below.

Disclosure Procedure
Before applying for the post we recommend that you read the following forms:

Self disclosure statement
Verification statement

These are purely for information at this stage and you should not submit them with your application form.

Candidates who are shortlisted for interview will be asked to complete a self disclosure statement which will be submitted to the Office Manager at an allocated time on the day of the interview.

Referees of shortlisted candidates will also be asked to comment on the suitability of the candidate to work directly with children/young people.

Appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to a satisfactory disclosure certificate being issued by Disclosure Scotland (or similar document by relevant overseas agency). Continuing employment will be subject to a satisfactory disclosure certificate (or similar) being issued every two years. Where the contents of a disclosure certificate are not satisfactory, Children in Scotland reserves the right to withdraw the offer of employment/terminate employment.

Criminal records checks will be requested only for posts that involve regular contact with children, young people and/or vulnerable adults (please see job description).
