Making space

Making space: award winning designs for young children
When architects, planners, educators, psychologists, brain scientists and children are brought together to consider the design and use of space the results are worth recording.  Making space: award winning designs for young children is such a record.  It celebrates the ideas and designs that came out of an international award and conference on architecture and design for young children, and a video conversation and art competition for children themselves.

These events came about when Children in Europe, a periodical published by a network of magazines across the European Union, decided to look at the  issue of architecture and design for young children. A coalition of agencies in Scotland (Children in Scotland, the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland with the support of the Scottish Executive) and internationally (Children in Europe and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) came together to take forward some of the issues it raised.

So what are some of the issues we identified in examining architecture and design for young children?
