How we go about influencing policy

There are a number of key areas of work undertaken by the policy department in order to develop policy and practice relating to children and young people in Scotland:

  • Working closely with government, local authorities and the voluntary sector in developing and implementing policy and legislation in Scotland.
  • Regular consultation with Children in Scotland members on national policy issues.
  • Regular consultation with children and young people to ensure their voice is heard in the development and implementation of policy and legislation.
  • Supporting a range of projects promoting the participation of children, young people and parents in decision making processes and the development and dissemination of policy and practice.
  • Working at a local, national and European level, particularly in the area of participation.
  • Administering and facilitating a number of groups and forums including the Cross Party Group on Children and Young People in the Scottish Parliament and the Special Needs Advisory Group.
