The Policy team
Children in Scotland’s policy team is made up of 8 dedicated staff.

Policy staff

Jonathan Sher, Director of Research, Policy and Practice Development

Jonathan's role within the policy team is to lead on work that incluences policy and parliamentary development. He sits on various Executive groups.

Paula Evans, Policy and Parliamentary Information Officer

Paula's role within the policy team involves liaising with members of the Scottish Parliament and Scottish Executive to influence parliamentary decisions and Scottish Executive policy development. She manages the Early Years Forum, the working group on foetal alcohol spectrum disorder andsits on various short term Executive groups. She is also involved in a fuel poverty working group.

Assistant Policy and Information Officer

Facilitates and runs the Participation Network.  She represents Children in Scotland on the Participation Partnership Group. She also contributes to Children in Scotland's policy functions, including, responding to current policy consultations affecting children, young pepole and their families.

Donna Patterson, Administrative Assistant - Policy & Research

Donna supports the work of the policy team by organising the Cross Party Group on Children and Young People, the Additional Support Needs Network and is responsible for updataing the 4 Nations Child Policy Network. She also assists with other policy work.

Programme staff

Caroline Dunmur , Senior Participation Officer

Caroline is currently working on a three year project with Scottish Borders Council, involving children and young people in accessibility strategies, Access All Areas. Caroline is involved more generally in consultation work with children and young people on various policy issues as well as informing other professionals and organisations on participation.   Caroline also ran the three year Citizenship in Practice project.

 

Sandra Mitchell, Mediation Co-ordinator

Sandra co-ordinates RESOLVE:ASLIndependent Mediation Service which was set up by Children in Scotland to assist local authorities to meet the mediation requirements in the Education (Additional Support for Learning)(Scotland) Act 2004 . The service is based on the successful and effective Enquire mediation pilot project. Sandra was the mediation development officer for the pilot project.
