Consultations
Consultations are used as a way of engaging individuals and organisations in policy proposals. They provide an opportunity for all those who wish to express opinions on a proposed area of work to do so in ways which will inform and enhance that work. Although any organisation can issue proposals for consultation they are used most commonly by the Scottish Executive as a formal means of engaging the public and professionals in their policy work.

Consultation responses are used as part of the decision making process. The views and suggestions received may point to the need for policy development or review, inform the development of a particular policy, help to decide between alternative policy proposals or be used to finalise legislation before it is implemented.
