Opening Doors to Learning

The Opening Doors to Learning Project investigated whether current early years policies and services are meeting the needs of young children (aged 0 to 7) who require additional support for learning.   The project was funded by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.

The project ran until August 2006. Work was undertaken in two phases:

  •      Phase One: A mapping exercise with local authorities and parents to investigate local provision of education and services for children with additional support needs.

  •    Phase Two: Between May 2005 and March 2006 four seminars brought together parents, carers and professionals to investigate whether current services are meeting the needs of children with additional support needs and their families. Delegates had the opportunity to share their experience, hear about new or innovative practice and recommend practical solutions to overcoming barriers to learning.

Findings from the mapping exercise and four factsheets outlining discussion from the seminars will appear on the website shortly.
