What I Think Matters: Serious Accidents and Injuries (2007)
A quantitative survey was conducted late in 2006 with approximately 500 children (P3-P7) and young people (S1-S3) in Scotland. It was commissioned to aid the development of Scotland’s Child Safety Action Plan, which is part of an 18-nation European initiative on the prevention on unintentional injuries. The survey solicited their views, knowledge and experience with accidental injuries, as well as a variety of related safety issues.

The Right Training to Give Young Children the Right Start (2007)
The Childcare Partnerships in two local authority areas commissioned this research on the effectiveness of training for early education and childcare practitioners. The research was conducted during 2006 in the Scottish Borders and in Dumfries & Galloway. Work included: a survey of the qualifications and experiences of early education and childcare practitioners (statutory, voluntary and private sector); interviews with select early education/childcare practitioners and managers on the quality and value of the training they have received; and focus groups with those responsible for developing training provision. This research was commissioned in 2005 by the Scottish Borders Childcare Partnership to explore grandparents’ views, experiences and potential support needs in providing informal childcare. Parental Involvement in Early Education and Childcare
A mapping study carried out as part of Children in Scotland’s Growing Up in Rural Scotland programme for 2004/05 (the programme is funded by the Scottish Executive). This involved a quantitative survey of childcare partnerships in the 14 rural local authorities in order to map the roles of parents in planning and delivery of early education and care services in rural Scotland. The findings are included in the report of the 2004/05 rural programme – Children in Scotland (2005): A Sense of Time, A Sense of Place: meeting the needs of the whole child in rural communities, Edinburgh: Children in Scotland. Mapping of Policy Documents on Early Education & Childcare and the Social Inclusion of Young Children in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
This was commissioned by the European Union URBACT Programme, a Community Initiative Programme that facilitates networking between cities from all member states in order to analyse and learn from each other’s approaches to policy and practice on urban issues. A summary of, and explanatory information about, each document, was produced for an EU-wide audience and these are published on URBACT’s website.
