Playing Outside A Children in Europe special conference supported by Fife Council Ref: 1408 - Conference Play, nature and services for young children Opportunities for outdoor play and activities can contribute hugely to children’s learning and creativity, social relationships and physical well-being. Nature has been described as ‘the best environment for a child’s play’ enabling children to explore their ‘possibility’ worlds. Research has shown that children who play outside are more curious and physically healthier - and that the outdoor environment offers important opportunities for developing relationships as well as encouraging a sense of independence and building self-esteem. This special conference explores some of the issues raised by Children in Europe’s issue ‘Playing Outside” which examines the use of outdoor space in services for children aged 0-10 years.
