How can local authorities and their partners ensure young children are given the best start in life? What is required at a national level to support them in developing services which meet the needs of the whole child?

It will draw on international reviews and practice and hear from contributors to Unicef Report Card 8, OECD Starting Strong II, and Children in Europe’s policy paper Young children and their ser vices: developing a European approach.

Government should include ‘nurture through nature’ agenda in early years framework, conference hears
The Scottish Government has been urged to include a “nurture through nature” agenda as an explicit part of its new early years framework and strategy, amid concerns that children’s relationship with the natural world is under threat.
Addressing delegates at Children in Scotland’s international conference Nurture Through Nature on 17 June, Karen Mountney, head of programming at Children in Scotland, explained the need to re-connect young people with the world around them.

Scottish Pedagogue Model – FAQ now available
Children in Scotland's new publication 'Working it out: developing the children's sector workforce', includes an examination of the potential role of a new Scottish pedagogue qualification. Considerable interest has been expressed in the pedagogue model which, although popular across Europe, is still new to Scotland. Children in Scotland has published a set of Frequently Asked Questions, which explains how the model works.
